Sale Reaches Over 720 Million Cents

New York, December 7, 2006 —Antiquorum‘s New York sale of Important Collectors’ Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks of 396 varied timepieces sold for an impressive $ 7,257,887 (or over 720 million cents!). The last auction of the year achieved an astounding world wide total of $ 87,027,149 and over $ 110,000,000 including private treaty sales for 2006, in cofirming Antiquorum’s position as the premier auction house for timepieces. This was the second best auction ever in Antiquorum USA’s history. Collectors bought modern and vintage watches at 115 % of their estimate resulting in 83% of all lots sold. The exceptionally successful auction saw very active telephone and in-house bidding, along with 284 registered internet bidders from around the world. Buyers from the United States were extremely competitive, along with bidding from Russia, China, Spain, Australia, Canada, and Italy. “This is an auspicious beginning for Antiquorum USA’s headquarters in the heart of New York City", said Osvaldo Patrizzi, Chairman and Founder of Antiquorum Auctioneers. The star of the sale was lot 392, a “Grande Complication Automatique” Audemars
Piguet, Genève wristwatch which sold at US$ 372,400. Many
pieces fetched well beyond their estimates. There was very lively
bidding for highly collectible watches such as lot 354, a Rolex Submariner
in stainless steel retailed by Cartier sold for $ 84,960, seven times
its estimate., a world record for this watch. Also Patek sold well
with lot 396, a platinum 10-day tourbillon which sold for $ 288,400.
In addition, Omega was sought after with lot 124, the so-called “Ploprof “ Seamaster
which sold for $ 10,620. Clocks were also very much in demand such
as lot 294,”The Eiffel Tower” sold for $
14,160, six times its’ estimate. |
