the world’s leading watch auctioneer, is proud to present their
October sale entitled Important Collectors’ Watches, Pocket
Watches & Clocks to be held at the Grand Hotel Kempinski
(formerly Hilton) in Geneva on October 13 & 14. This important
sale will offer 530 extraordinary lots including exceptional timepieces
from private collections, some with very important provenance.
One such watch is the exceptional and highly important Breguet “montre
garde-temps à tourbillon”. This was the first four-minute
tourbillon to be made by Breguet and was sold in 1809 to Count Stanislas
Potocki; a Polish nobleman, politician, writer, collector and patron
of the arts, who was one of the most emblematic figures of the Age
of Enlightenment in his country.
An exquisite and extremely rare pre-balance spring, single-hand, pendant
watch, made in ca. 1650, by the eminent maker Goullons a Paris is included
in the sale. depicting “Semiramis Called to Arms” Blois
or Paris painted-on-enamel The case is attributed to the Toutin workshop.
Today very few of examples of this type of watch remains in private
hands, most of them being preserved in museum collections.
Among very fine wristwatches there is an exceptionally rare, extremely
fine and important Water-Resistant Ref. 1463/1563 “Rattrapante” made
in 1947 to be sold in this auction. Split-second chronographs with
waterproof case and round push buttons are extremely rare.
From private collections included in the catalogue are some from the
highly important timepieces illustrated in the book “The Collection”. Such
as watches and clocks made by Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin,
Cartier and Rolex.
The second session of the sale will be dedicated to a Swiss private
collection of more than 100 modern watches including brands such as
Vacheron Constantin, Audemars Piguet, Omega, and Breguet. Those timepieces
are to be sold without reserve and are in most parts accompanied with
original case and certificate.
A selection of the timepieces will be shown in New York, Taipei and
Hong Kong before returning to Antiquorum’s Showroom in Geneva.
