ANTIQUORUM OCTOBER AUCTION BREAKS 8 WORLD RECORDS AND ACHIEVES
TOP PRICES |
Geneva, October 14, 2007. Reconfirming
its market dominance Antiquorum achieved an excellent sale the past
weekend realizing SFr. 10,971,298 (US$ 9,283,000) in auction turnover
selling 83 % by lot and 139% by value. The October sale of Important
Collectors’ Watches, Pocket Watches & Clocks achieved
this very satisfactory overall result, set a lot of excellent prices
and several world records. The sale took place at the recently
refurbished Grand Hotel Kempinski. All the habitual clients were
present in the saleroom. Many private collectors and representatives
from horological museums were bidding against almost 400 registered
on-line bidders and record-number clients having left absentee bids
from all over the world. 25 % of the lots was sold via the Antiquorum
on-line. Collectors especially from Asia acquired many timepieces
as well as from USA, Italy, Germany and Switzerland. The Antiquorum
website has been visited by more than 15’000 people over the
weekend.
The highlights of the sale were certainly the several Rolex watches
that one after the other broke many world records by far. Such as
lot
496, Rolex Ref. 6542 “Yellow Gold GMT-Master Perspex Bezel” that
beat all previous results selling at SFr. 166,300 (US$ 141’000),
three times its estimate, and lot
499 Ref. 6239 yellow gold “Doctors
Cosmograph” which sold for SFR. 346’500 (US$ 294’000),
three times its estimate and further, lot
194 a military diver’s
watch, Rolex Ref. 6154 , made in 1954 that sold for SFr. 221’500
(US$ 188’000), doubled its estimate.
Another world record was set for a pink gold triple chronograph,
lot
511, by Audemars Piguet made in ca. 1940, that after a
fierce bidding was acquired by a private collector who bid over the
telephone for SFr. 447,300 (US$ 380’000). An additional
world record was broken by a Patek Philippe Ref. 3990 “Pink
Gold and Diamond”, lot
526, which sold for an astounding SFr.
296,100 (US$ 251’000).
An excellent price was achieved for a yellow gold Ref. 2499 “Third
series with tachometer dial”, lot
no. 199, that sold for a
top price of SFr. 794,500 (US$ 674’000). A fantastic result
was attained for the world time pocket watch with an enameled dial
that sold for SFr. 301,700 (US$ 256’000), lot
525. Further
outstanding prices were paid for Patek Philippe Master Control pieces
such as lots 328, 329 and 330.
Pocket watches with complications, including all watchmakers, proved
very much sought after, especially by Asian clients and many high
prices were accomplished confirming the strong demand. |
