Dear Friends and Clients,
It gives me great pleasure to present another special edition of Antiquorum’s
VOX. I would like to begin with an important observation; when the extraordinary
becomes common, it is because the ordinary is already at a high level of excellence.
This observation is the result of our extraordinary results for the first
half of this year – many world records, many new passionate and active collectors,
in an ever-growing, stable horological worldwide market. These achievements
are all the more extraordinary in an environment of economic distress, world-health
crisis, and political instability.
Following Antiquorum’s tradition,
Geneva is opening its season on October 11 & 12 with a sale not to be
missed – it is the thematic sale (which normally takes place in November),
and, since it was so successful, is based on the same theme as last year’s,
Horological Works of Art, which allows us to present masterpieces of horological
art comparable to the finest fine art. This auction will have 2 catalogues.
The first will be a ONE OWNER SALE that will include 100 magnificent objects,
offered for the first time at auction. The second will include important and
rare timepieces specially chosen from various collections worldwide, including
the Yves Droz Collection.
The November sale is entirely dedicated to the private collection of Theodor
Beyer, and will take place in Zurich, at the Baur au Lac. We decided to hold
this sale in this location in honor of Mr. Beyer, whose presence and fame
is still strongly felt there, and where, we are sure, he would have wanted
this sale to
have taken place.
New York will open its season on September 24 with an auction dedicated to
its specialty, contemporary
masterpieces of horology. In this sale you will find several unique timepieces
of particular interest to collectors, including pieces by Silberstein, Vacheron
Constantin, Patek Philippe, and many others.
More exciting news is the opening of Antiquorum Russia in Moscow, whose goal
for the present is to assist Russian buyers and vendors in participating in
our auctions. It will be managed by Antiquorum Geneva and Chronolux, a Swiss
company that specializes in distributing timepieces of major luxury watch
manufacturers that has been active in Russia for more than a decade.
We would like to welcome the newest addition to the Antiquorum Team, Brandon
Thomas. He comes to us not as a newcomer to the world of horology, as he formerly
headed Christies’ watch department in Geneva. He will be in charge of
the ever-growing Oriental market, as well as contributing to the production
of our catalogues. With Brandon’s arrival, Antiquorum hopes to better
follow certain geographical areas; Etienne Lemenager will be responsible for
Northern and Central Europe, Geoffroy Ader for France and Spain, and I will
be responsible for North America, Russia, and the Middle East, as well as
my general supervision of the business, along with the much appreciated help
of Philip Poniz. Geneva will also see Fabien Chicha, terminating his apprenticeship
to take his place working beside Etienne as an expert and he will be in charge
of technical service and cataloging.
Since we are growing, we have decided to expand our offices. As of August
1st, the administrative offices will be located at #4 Rue du Mont Blanc, while
the showroom and technical offices will remain at #2 Rue du Mont Blanc.
I’d like to briefly mention that our online Customer 2 Customer (C2CTime)
will soon be operational, and that you will find these details in the following
pages. Our online website has also enjoyed success, in that during the days
immediately prior to our auctions, up to 45,000 people in a single day have
visited our site, viewing the online cataloges, and checking our data base.
This impressive number of visitors has contributed to Antiquorum’s worldwide
visibility and reputation.
To conclude, this season’s events promise to be a magnificent prelude
to an even more important occasion
that we are already preparing for – Antiquorum’s 30th anniversary
– but that’s for next year!
There is an air of optimism generating a positive outlook
for all of us at Antiquorum for the upcoming season. We are preparing such
spectacular events for the fall that we feel it is necessary to present you
with a “sneak preview”. The goal of this VOX is, therefore, to tempt you!
In this edition you will find recent auction results, specialized articles
written by our experts, in-depth studies of certain horological works of art
which will be coming up for auction this fall, our calendar of events, and
Antiquorum’s general news.
