Vacheron Constantin and Historic Rolex GMT to highlight Antiquorum’s December Auction

New York, November 15, 2010 - Antiquorum Auctioneers, the world's premier watch auctioneer, is looking forward to its' December 8th auction at their US headquarters on Madison Avenue in New York City. The sale will encompass an impressive collection of 356  modern and vintage watches including an extremely rare Vacheron Constantin and a Rolex GMT that belonged to Captain Walsh who piloted the bathyscaphe Trieste with Jacques Piccard to the deepest point in the world's oceans. Prior to the sale, previews will be held in Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and New York.

The highlight of the sale is a Vacheron Constantin "Saint Gervais", No. 55. Made to mark the occasion of the Quarter Millennium of Vacheron Constantin in 2005, it is an extremely rare and important, water-resistant platinum wristwatch with 250-hour autonomy and power reserve indication in 2 sectors, visible one-minute tourbillon regulator, perpetual calendar and leap year indication. The watch is accompanied by the original fitted box with humidor, Certificate of Origin, slide-out magnifying glass engraved: 1755 - 2005, the Maltese Cross, Vacheron Constantin, Un Quart de Millenaire, setting pin and instruction booklet

For the Rolex aficionado and history enthusiast, Antiquorum experts are offering an exceptional and historically significant Rolex GMT- Master, ref. 6542 that belonged to Don Walsh, a Lieutenant of the US Navy and Officer-in-Charge of the Navy's Bathyscaph Trieste. Lieutenant Walsh together with Jacques Piccard piloted the Bathyscaph Trieste to the deepest place in the World Ocean; the Challenger Deep in the Marianas Trench 200 miles Southwest of the island of Guam at a depth of 35,800 feet. Subsequent to the dive, Rolex gifted Lieutenant Walsh a Rolex GMT- Master in April, 1960. Also in recognition of his tremendous achievement, Lieutenant Walsh was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Navy's second highest non-combat medal, by President Eisenhower at a ceremony held at The White House in 1960.

 Made in 1958, Lieutenant Walsh's former Rolex GMT - Master is a rare, two time zone, center seconds, self-winding, water-resistant wristwatch with date, special 24-hour bezel. It is accompanied by the original 1960 letter from Rolex and subsequent complimentary invoice; the book " Seven Miles Down: The story of the bathyscaph Trieste" by Jacques Piccard; an original 1960 copy of Life Magazine featuring the Trieste on the cover; an August 1960 National Geographic magazine with an article on the Trieste dive by Jacques Piccard(in pristine condition); a copy of Don Walsh's award citation from President Eisenhower,1960; a copy of Walsh's award citation from the secretary of the navy,1960; a copy of the Rolex booklet celebrating the 25th anniversary of the deep dive, 1985; and a souvenir photograph of Don Walsh, Jacques Piccard, and the Trieste (all signed by Don Walsh).

 Additionally, there is an exceptional FP Journe collection included in the December auction.  It encompasses a set of six Platinum F.P. Journe wristwatches accompanied by the original box for the set, each numbered 1000, with individual instruction booklets and spare straps.

-          F.P. Journe, "Invenit et Fecit," "Chronomètre à Résonance," No. 1000 R. Made in 2005. Two time zone, platinum chronometer wristwatch with resonance controlled twin independent movements, 40-hour power-reserve indication

-          F. P. Journe, "Invenit et Fecit," "Octa Automatic," No. 1000-A. Made in 2005. Self-winding, platinum chronometer wristwatch with 120-hour power reserve indicator, large date

-          F.P. Journe, "Invenit et Fecit", "Octa Calendrier," No. 1000-Q. Made in 2005. Self-winding, platinum chronometer wristwatch with annual calendar, retrograde date, large day of the week and month indication

-          F.P. Journe, "Invenit et Fecit", "Remontoir d'Egalité - Tourbillon Souverain," No. 1000-T. Made in 2005. Platinum chronometer wristwatch with visible one-minute tourbillon regulator and constant force remontoir, 42- hour power reserve indication

Also of interest for the collector of haute horlogerie, Antiquorum experts are pleased to offer a Greubel Forsey, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Swiss, Inventor Watchmakers, "Double Tourbillon 30° Vision," No. 61. Made in 2005,  it is an important, heavy, water-resistant, 18K white gold wristwatch with 30° inclined visible inner one minute tourbillon regulator, visible outer four-minutes tourbillon regulator with four minutes rotation indicator, twin barrels and 72-hour power reserve.

Estimate: $ 150,000 - $ 200,000

Furthermore, there are two outstanding Lange wristwatches included in the sale. The first is an A. Lange & Sohne "Double - Split Flyback". Made in 2007, it is a fine, rare and important, platinum wristwatch with square button split-seconds and split-minutes fly-back chronograph, register, tachometer and power-reserve indication. The second is an A. Lange & Sohne Datograph. Made circa 2008, it is a fine, platinum wristwatch with square button fly-back chronograph, register, tachometer, perpetual calendar with oversized date, day & night indicator.

Additionally, the FP Journe enthusiast will be eager to acquire the F.P. Journe, "Invenit et Fecit Tourbillon Souverain à Remontoir d'Egalité avec Seconde Morte". Sold December 18th, 2007, it is a rare, platinum chronometer wristwatch with visible one-minute tourbillion regulator, constant force remontoir with dead-seconds and 42-hour power-reserve indicator.

 For the Richard Mille aficionado, there is the RM 010. Made in 2006, it is a fine, tonneau-shaped and curved, center seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, 18K white gold and diamonds wristwatch with date.

 Also of interest for the Rolex collector Antiquorum experts are offering two Paul Newman Daytonas. The first is a Rolex "Cosmograph Daytona," ref. 6239. Made circa 1968, it is a water-resistant, stainless steel wristwatch with steel bezel, round button chronograph, registers and tachometer. The second is a Rolex, "Cosmograph Daytona," ref. 6238. Made circa 1967, it is a water-resistant, 14K yellow gold wristwatch with black bezel, round button chronograph, registers and tachometer.

 Another extraordinary Rolex offered is the Rolex Ref. 8171 "Padellone". Made circa 1950, it is a rare, self-winding, antimagnetic, stainless steel wristwatch with triple date and moon phases.

 Baseball enthusiasts will be competing for timepieces formerly belonging to Joe DiMaggio. Antiquorum experts are delighted to offer "Joltin' Joe's" Longines wristwatch in the December sale. Made in the 1940s, it is a fine rectangular, 14K pink gold and diamond wristwatch.  It is accompanied by a photo of Joe DiMaggio wearing the watch. Also being offered is his Wittnauer pocket watch. Made in 1952 for the World Championship of the New York Yankees, it is a fine, steel nickel-plated pocket watch with engraved case back, "World Champions, The Yankee Logo,  New York Yankees - 1952, J.P.D".  Additionally, DiMaggio fans can look forward to bidding on the legendary baseball player's Imexal clock. Made in 1973, presented to Joe DiMaggio as the Casey Stengel Award on January 27th, 1974, it is a very rare, gilt brass, 8-day going, desk clock with triple date calendar, moon phases and alarm accompanied by a photo taken at the presentation.
