Modern Horological Masterpieces and Exceptional Vintage Watches Offered in Antiquorum’s July Auction

Hong Kong, June 22, 2016- Antiquorum Auctioneers, the world’s premier auctioneers of modern and vintage timepieces, is delighted to present its July 9th auction of “Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces” to be held at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. Collectors can look forward to bidding on 490 outstanding watches from leading luxury brands. Previews will be held at Antiquorum’s showroom in Hong Kong from July 6th through July 8th.

Among the top lots are a number of rare timepieces including a limited edition Concord C1 Quantum Gravity Tourbillon; a Franck Muller Calibre 97 Grande and Petit Sonnerie Minute Repeater; and a Chopard Imperiale Tourbillon Baguette Diamond Wristwatch.

The highlight of the sale is the Concord Quantum Gravity Bi-Axial Tourbillon, No. 08/10. Announced at Basel Word in 2009, this is an extremely rare titanium and rubber bi-axial tourbillon wristwatch. One of the most visual and remarkable characteristics of the watch is the prominent green liquid of phosphorous nanoparticles that display the 3-day power reserve. The liquid, which rises and falls via a mechanical cylinder, glows in the dark when subject to light. At the time of its release in 2009, this highly desirable number 8 in the edition retailed for 500,000 Swiss Francs.

Another extraordinary piece offered is the Franck Muller Calibre 97 Platinum and Diamond wristwatch, made circa 2000. This is an exceptional and possibly unique wristwatch with grande and petite sonnerie minute repeater, retrograde perpetual calendar, equation of time, moon phase, 24 hour display and platinum Franck Muller buckle set with 8 round diamonds.

Also underscoring the July auction is the magnificent Chopard Ref. 4250 Imperiale Tourbillon Baguette Diamond wristwatch in white gold with matching ring, cufflinks and ballpoint pen. Produced circa 2010, this is a very rare 18K white gold baguette diamond chronometer wristwatch with visible one- minute tourbillon regulator and 8-day power reserve.

For the Patek Philippe collector there is the Patek Philippe Ref. 5102 Celestial white gold wristwatch, made in May 2007. This is an extremely fine and unusual astronomic wristwatch with mean time indication, nocturnal sky of the Northern Hemisphere, moon phases and moon orbit and time of the meridian passage of Sirius and moon.

Patek Philippe aficionados will want to bid on the Patek Philippe Ref. 5077 Iris and Fireflies cloisonné enamel dial wristwatch. This is an exceptionally rare platinum wristwatch with an exquisite multi-colored cloisonné enamel dial depicting iris and fireflies at night. This outstanding timepiece was made in a limited production and sold on March7th, 2014.

Watch collectors will be competing for the Patek Philippe Ref. 5131 World Time Yellow Gold wristwatch. Announced at Basel World in 2008, this superb timepiece with stunning cloisonné enamel dial is known for its horological precision and beauty. Each cloisonné enamel dial is carefully handmade by exceptional artists. The Ref. 5131 is only produced in a small amount every year due to its high level of complexity in the production process. The present example was sold on October 1st, 2014.

Rolex aficionados will be vying for the highly sought-after Rolex Ref. 5513 Military Submariner in steel. Made circa 1972 and issued to the British Royal Navy in 1974, this is a very rare hacking center seconds, self-winding, water-resistant, stainless steel military diver’s wristwatch with fixed bar lugs. The Rolex Military Submariner wristwatches issued to the British Royal Navy featured a dial with encircled T (to indicated the use of tritium luminescent), large sword hands, bezel calibrated to 60 minutes, movements with hacking (stop) seconds and engraved case-back with Ministry of Defense item code and issue number, additionally the inner case-back is engraved with the full serial number to ensure the head and back remain matched. During routine servicing, often original parts were unavailable and many military submariners found today are fitted with standard 5513 parts. This example with original configuration that retains its correct hands, dial, bezel and case-back is very rare to find and is referred to as a “Full Spec” example.

Another exceptional timepiece is the Rolex Ref. 6241, 14K Gold Daytona "Paul Newman”. Made in 1969, this iconic and ever-popular wristwatch features a round button chronograph, registers, tachometer and anti-reflect black bezel.

Antiquorum experts are delighted to present the Rolex Ref 6262/6239, Made circa 1970. This is a very fine and rare stainless steel wristwatch with round-button chronograph, registers, tachometer and a stainless steel Rolex Oyster bracelet. Introduced in 1970 the Rolex Daytona Ref. 6262 was the updated version of the Ref. 6239 featuring an improved and more accurate Cal. 727 movement. Examples of Ref. 6262 with a black Paul Newman dial are particularly rare and highly coveted by collectors worldwide.

Another noteworthy timepiece presented is the Rolex, Ref. 116759 GMT-Master II Diamond and Sapphire special edition in white gold. This is a very fine, two time zone wristwatch in white gold with special 24 hour hand, independently adjustable hour hand, diamond and sapphire-set bezel, pave-set diamond dial and an 18K white gold Oysterlock bracelet.
