For Immediate Release

April 21, 2016

Patek Philippe and ...

New York, April 20, 2016 -- Antiquorum ‘s sale of “Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces” on April 20 in New York totaled $ 3,702,787. Lively international bidding came from countries such as the United Arab Emirates, China, Singapore, Taiwan, Israel, Switzerland as well as the United States. The outstanding collection of 259 timepieces from the world’s most coveted brands sold 85% by lot and 108% by value.

Highlighting the sale was the exceptional Patek Philippe Ref. 5013 in platinum (lot 259). The minute-repeating perpetual calendar inspired spirited competition and sold for $471,750.

Also attracting collectors of haute horology was the extraordinary Patek Philippe Ref. 2497 (lot 248). Several bidders battled over the highly collectible perpetual calendar which ultimately sold to a room bidder for $231,750.

"We are very pleased by the outcome for our April auction," said Evan Zimmermann, President & CEO of Antiquorum. "Today's results confirm that the New York market continues to achieve strong prices for rare examples of modern as well as vintage timepieces with particularly aggressive competition from internet bidders from across the globe.”

Richard Mille timepieces continue to achieve impressive prices at auction. Each of the four rare examples offered achieved noteworthy results with the Richard Mille RM 025 Tourbillon Chronograph in Titanium and Pink Gold (Lot 142) topping the list and selling for an outstanding $243,750, over double its low estimate.

“Richard Mille timepieces continue to resonate with collectors worldwide,” said Saori Omura, Watch Director of Antiquorum New York. “In today’s sale, we were thrilled to see the Richard Mille RM 025 Tourbillon Chronograph exceed its estimate and sell for an impressive $243,750.”

All Heuer timepieces presented in the sale achieved strong results with rare examples selling for multiple times their pre-auction estimates. The popular Heuer Autavia model (lot 185) ignited an exciting bidding war between two phone bidders, ultimately selling for $ 41,250, quadruple its low estimate.

Vintage Rolex sports watches remain popular with collectors with exceptional models attaining particularly notable results. The Rolex Ref. 1675 GMT Master Underline Dial in Steel (lot 106) and the Rolex Ref. 5512 Submariner Pointed Crown Guard Meter First in Steel (lot 107) both exceeded their auction estimates; and the Rolex Ref. 6202 Turn-O- Graph with Gilt Black Honeycomb Dial (lot 108) nearly doubled its high estimate selling for $25,000. Finally, the historically important Corum “Buckingham” that belonged to Elvis Presley attracted rock n roll fans and Corum aficionados alike, topping its high estimate at $22,500.

Antiquorum looks forward to our next auction in Geneva on May 15 which will feature outstanding timepieces from leading brands such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Urban Jurgensen and Breguet.
