Patek Philippe Birds of Paradise Set of Enamel Dial Wristwatches Drive Outstanding Results

Hong Kong, March 19th, 2016 – Antiquorum’s spring auction of “Important Modern and Vintage Timepieces” held at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong on Saturday, March 19th concluded with an outstanding result totaling HKD 35,385,750. The sale of 271 fine and highly collectible timepieces attracted a standing room only crowd, in addition to several hundred registered internet bidders and phone bidders from around the world. A total of 73.5% of the auction was sold by lot, with 110% sold by value.

He continued, “Collectors in the room and on the telephone aggressively bid on the exceptional collection of enamel timepieces offered, contributing to the superb results for today’s sale.”

The top lot of the auction was undoubtedly the Patek Philippe Ref. 5075, Birds of Paradise set of 4 enamel dial wristwatches in white gold. This limited edition set of 4 enamel wristwatches provoked an intense bidding war among telephone and room bidders and ultimately sold for an impressive price of HKD 3,870,000 including buyer’s premium.

Exceptional gem-set timepieces attracted collectors worldwide. The Patek Philippe 4908/101G-001 Twenty- Four diamond and white gold wristwatch (Lot 45) sold at HKD 2,910,000 including buyer’s premium; while the Chopard Ref. 4250 Imperiale Tourbillon Baguette Diamond wristwatch in pink gold (Lot 110) was also highly coveted and attained an outstanding result at HKD 1,350,000 including buyer’s premium.

Patek Philippe realized spectacular prices in the sale. A number of wristwatches inspired fierce competition. The Patek Philippe Ref. 5131 enamel dial in white gold (Lot 270) achieved a noteworthy HKD 942,000 including buyer’s premium. In addition, the Patek Philippe Ref.5970 chronograph perpetual calendar in yellow gold (Lot 146) was sold for HKD 858,000; and the Patek Philippe Ref.3970EP perpetual calendar chronograph in platinum (Lot 296) obtained HKD 798,000 including buyer’s premium.

Rare enamel pocket watches made for the Chinese market in exceptional condition continue to galvanize collectors worldwide. The Ilbery Bouquet of Summer Flowers Enamel and Pearl Set Gold Pocket Watch (Lot 83) achieved an outstanding price of HKD 700,000 including buyer’s premium.
