Rare Patek Philippe ...

New York, February 23, 2017 – Antiquorum’s auction of Important Watches & Jewelry on Thursday, February 23rd in New York totaled $3,693,475. The auction of 283 collectible timepieces and fine jewelry drew worldwide attention resulting in 115% sold by value. Strong international participation came from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Germany as well as the United States.

The highlight of the sale was unquestionably the Patek Philippe Ref. 5971 [lot 283]. The rare perpetual calendar with baguette diamond bezel elicited active bidding in the auction room and on the internet. Ultimately, it sold for $227,000.

“We are extremely pleased with the results for rare complicated Patek Philippe examples in the sale,” said Saori Omura, Watch Director Of Antiquorum New York. “In particular, the outstanding result for the Patek Philippe Ref. 5971 confirms that collectors are willing to pay a premium for exceptional timepieces at the very top end of the market.”

Other Patek Philippe wristwatches also achieved notable results. The Patek Philippe Ref. 5970 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in Pink Gold [lot 100] and the Patek Philippe Ref. 5270 Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in White Gold [lot 282] each sold for $112,500 against a pre-auction estimate of $80,000 - $120,000. Also inspiring competitive bidding, the Patek Philippe Ref. 5170 Beyer 250th Anniversary Edition of 50 Pieces Chronograph in Yellow Gold [lot 98] attained $48,750.

Not to be overlooked were standout pieces from Franck Muller and Chopard. Fierce competition among bidders resulted in the Franck Muller Calibre 97 Unique Grande et Petite Sonnerie Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar in Platinum with Diamonds [lot 270] selling for $221,000, topping it high estimate by over $20,000. Equally as exciting, the Chopard Ref. 4250 Imperiale Tourbillon Baguette Diamonds with Matching Ring, Cufflinks and Ballpoint Pen [lot 111] sold at the top end of its estimate at $197,000.

Also achieving a spectacular result, the Richard Mille Ref. RM 011 Ivory Felipe Massa Annual Calendar Flyback Chronograph in Pink Gold [lot 123] incited spirited competition. The extremely rare annual calendar wristwatch exceeded its estimate and sold for $143,000.

“We are delighted with the excellent results achieved for the impressive selection of rare timepieces offered in our first ever February auction in New York,” said Evan Zimmermann, President & CEO of Antiquorum. “ We were especially happy to see competitive worldwide bidding with particularly strong participation from internet bidders for exceptional, limited edition and unique timepieces from Patek Philippe, Rolex, Franck Muller and Richard Mille.”

Rare pieces from Rolex attracted interest from collectors. The Rolex Ref. 116599 Daytona Baguette Diamond Ruby and White Gold [lot 267] was acquired for $75,000; and the Rolex Ref. 116759 GMT- Master II Diamond Sapphire and White Gold [lot 268] sold for $50,625.
