Rare Horological Marvels Offered in Antiquorum’s March Auction

Hong Kong, March 1, 2016 - Antiquorum Auctioneers, the world’s premier auctioneers of modern and vintage timepieces, is pleased to present its first auction of 2016, “Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces” to be held on Saturday, March 19 at The Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. Collectors can look forward to bidding on 271 outstanding modern and vintage timepieces. Previews will be held at Antiquorum’s showroom in Hong Kong from March 16th through March 18th.

Among the highlights is a collection of rare Patek Philippe timepieces including a Patek Philippe Ref. 5075, Birds of Paradise set of four enamel dial wristwatches in white gold; a Ref. 5131 World Time wristwatch in 18K yellow gold; and a Ref. 5975, 175th anniversary chronograph in pink gold .

Also underscoring the sale are a number of rare and exceptional timepieces, which include the highly collectible MB & F Horological machine No.6 Space Pirate; a Chopard Ref. 4250 Imperiale Tourbillon Baguette Diamond in pink gold and Ilbery enamel, pearl-set 18K gold pocket watch made for the Chinese market.

Leading the sale is the Patek Philippe Ref. 5075, Birds of Paradise set of 4 enamel dial wristwatches in white gold. This is a very rare set of four timepieces in white gold with cloisonné enamel dials previously offered exclusively to Patek Philippe’s top customers. Made in a limited edition of 15 sets in 2001, each watch features a different dial with bird motif in strikingly beautiful vivid colors. Lot 271

Another top highlight of the sale is the MB & F “Horological Machine No.6 Space Pirate,” made in 50 pieces circa 2014. This is an extremely fine and innovative, oversized, self-winding titanium wristwatch with visible /concealed one –minute tourbillon regulator and MB&F stainless steel SPACE double –sprung deployant clasp. The “Space Pirate” was inspired by a 1970’s futuristic cartoon called Captain Flam known in English as “Captain Future” and twentieth century art movement called biomorphism which models artistic elements on shapes that occur in nature. This exceptional and avant-garde timepiece is likely to draw attention from serious watch collectors and science fiction aficionados the world over. Lot 73

This is a very fine and rare ,18K pink gold baguette diamond chronometer wristwatch with visible one- minute tourbillon regulator , 8-days power reserve and a Chopard 18K pink gold buckle. Lot 110

The Patek Philippe collector will want to bid on the Patek Philippe Ref. 5975 chronograph in pink gold. This is very rare 18K pink gold wristwatch with square-button chronograph tachometer, telemeter, pulsometer and 18K pink gold deployant clasp. It is engraved “Patek Philippe 1839 - 2014.” This exception model is made in 2014 in a limited edition of 400 pieces to commemorate the 175th Anniversary of Patek Philippe (1939 to 2014). Lot 52

Also offered for the Patek Philippe collector is the Ref. 5131J-00118K yellow gold wristwatch. Announced at Basel World Watch and Jewelry Show in 2008, this superb timepiece with exquisite cloisonné enamel dial is known for its horological precision and beauty. Each cloisonné enamel dial is carefully handmade by exceptional enamel artists. The Ref. 5131 is only produced in a limited amount every year due to its high level of complexity in the production process. The magnificent watch with world-time system, cloisonné enamel dial and a Patek Philippe 18K yellow gold deployant clasp was sold on 1st October, 2014. Lot 270

This is a very fine and rare, platinum chronometer wristwatch with visible one-minute tourbillion regulator, constant force remontoir with dead-seconds, 42-hour power-reserve indicator and a platinum F.P. Pocket watch collectors will not want to miss the Ilbery Bouquet of summer flowers; it is a very fine and rare,18K gold and painted on enamel , pearl-set pocket watch with duplex escapement, made for the Chinese market, circa 1835. William Ilbery specialized in the production of luxury watches made for the Chinese market. His early production was in the English style, with a full plate movement and an English type single wheel duplex escapement; the cases of his watches were sumptuously decorated by Geneva’s best enamellers, such as Jean-Francois –Victor Dupont and Jean- Louis Richter. He organized the production of his highly engraved movements for the Asian market in Switzerland, mainly in Fleurier, being followed by makers such as Bovet and Juvet. Ilbery can therefore be considered the “father of Chinese watches” as they are known today. Lot 83
